 This is a electron microscope picture, magnified 549 times, of a 2 year old battery positive plate, which has never been used and has been allowed to sulfate on the shelf. This chemical reaction has destroyed the battery. The plates are so completely coated with sulfate crystals and the electrolyte is so weakened that this battery is ready for disposal. Undoubtedly, the sulfate formation has caused extensive and irreversible physical damage to the battery plate. |
