 This is a electron microscope picture of a battery positive plate (magnified 558 times) that has never been exposed to electrolyte. Compared with the other photographs, you can see the complete absence of sulfate crystals on the battery plate and the healthy "sponge lead" appearance of the plate. Without the addition of the electrolyte, the natural chemical reaction resulting in sulfation has not yet begun. |
